Discussion Questions for Sermon Series Twisted Week of Aug. 24th

Sin is a very uncomfortable word. It implies that there exists a moral absolute that we are accountable to and a moral absolute that we have fallen short of. And as a result, this word has almost completely dropped out of our vocabulary. But when we allow the concept of sin to be twisted, there are far-reaching consequences that we seldom recognize.

  1. What is the difference between a sin and a mistake?

  2. How have you seen the concept of sin twisted by our culture?

  3. Read Matthew 5:17-44. How did Jesus leave no room for us to think that we are righteous on our own?

  4. Read Romans 3:23-25. What did God do in response to our sin?

  5. Have you come to a point of realizing that you are a sinner in need of a savior? If so, when
    did this happen?

  6. What is at stake when people do not realize their sinfulness?

  7. Read Luke 15:11-32. Reflect on how God, as our heavenly father, embraces us when we embrace our sin.

  8. Read John 8:1-11. What will your response be to a God who forgives sin?  Pray

"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
